How to Install Skins in Bedrock Edition

Installing custom skins in Minecraft Bedrock across all platforms: Windows 10/11, Mobile, and Console

Choose Your Platform

About Minecraft Bedrock Skins

Minecraft Bedrock Edition offers multiple ways to customize your character's appearance. Unlike Java Edition, Bedrock allows you to import custom skins directly through the game itself on most platforms.

Bedrock Edition also includes the Minecraft Marketplace with both free and paid skins, but with this guide, you'll learn how to use any custom skin you want!

Bedrock vs. Java Skins

Bedrock Edition skins have the same dimensions as Java (64x64 pixels), but they may handle transparency differently. For best results, use skins specifically designed for Bedrock Edition or from the MinecraftMods collection.

Windows 10/11 Installation

Installing custom skins on Windows Bedrock Edition is straightforward:

1

Launch Minecraft

Open Minecraft Bedrock Edition on your Windows device.

2

Access Dressing Room

From the main menu, click on the "Dressing Room" button (the hanger icon) or select your character model.

3

Select "Edit Character"

In the character creator screen, choose the "Edit Character" option.

4

Choose "Classic Skins" Tab

Select the second tab labeled "Classic Skins" in the character editor.

5

Import Custom Skin

Click on the "Import" button (usually looks like an upload icon). This will open a file browser.

6

Select Your Skin File

Navigate to where you saved your skin file (.PNG format) and select it.

7

Choose Skin Model

Select either "Classic" (Steve) or "Slim" (Alex) model type, depending on your skin design.

8

Confirm & Apply

Click "Confirm" or "Done" to apply the skin to your character.

That's it! Your custom skin will now be applied to your character in-game. You can switch between multiple custom skins by repeating this process.

Android Installation

Follow these steps to install custom skins on Android devices:

1

Download Skin to Device

Save your chosen skin file (.PNG) to your Android device. Remember where you saved it!

2

Launch Minecraft

Open the Minecraft app on your Android device.

Android Tip

If you're having trouble finding your downloaded skin, try using a file manager app to locate it. Downloaded files are typically stored in the "Downloads" folder.

iOS Installation (iPhone & iPad)

Installing custom skins on iOS requires a few extra steps, but it's still simple:

1

Download Skin to Files App

Save the skin file to your iPhone or iPad using the Files app. You might need to download it first on Safari, then move it to Files.

2

Launch Minecraft

Open the Minecraft app on your iOS device.

3

Access Character Creator

Tap on the Dressing Room button or your character model from the main menu.

4

Select Edit Character

Tap "Edit Character" to open the customization screen.

5

Go to Classic Skins Tab

Tap on the second tab (Classic Skins) in the editor.

6

Import Custom Skin

Tap the "Import" button (looks like an upload icon).

7

Choose File from Files App

Navigate to where you saved the skin file in the Files app and select it.

8

Select Model and Apply

Choose the appropriate model type (Classic or Slim) and tap "Confirm" to apply your skin.

iOS Trick

If you're having trouble importing directly, try using the iOS Files app to organize your skin files in a dedicated folder. This makes them easier to find when importing into Minecraft.

Console Installation

Console Limitations

Unfortunately, game consoles (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch) don't allow importing custom skins directly within the game. However, there are alternatives!

Console Alternative Methods

A

Use a Microsoft/Xbox Account

Link your console to a Microsoft account, then use a mobile device or PC to change your skin following the steps above. The skin will sync to your console when you sign in.

  1. Link your console to a Microsoft account
  2. Change your skin on mobile or PC
  3. Sign in on your console with the same account
  4. Your skin will automatically appear
B

Purchase from Marketplace

Console versions support the official Minecraft Marketplace, where you can find and purchase skin packs.

  1. Open Minecraft on your console
  2. Go to Marketplace from the main menu
  3. Browse the Skins category
  4. Purchase or download free skin packs
  5. Apply them from the Dressing Room
C

Character Creator

Use the built-in Character Creator to design a custom character. While not the same as importing a custom skin, you can create unique looks with the available options.

  1. Go to the Dressing Room from the main menu
  2. Select "Create Character" option
  3. Use the available components to design your character
  4. Save and apply your creation

Console Compatibility Note

While direct skin file importing isn't available on consoles, linking your Microsoft account is the best way to use custom skins. For more details on console-specific features, check our Console Edition guide.

Troubleshooting

Running into issues? Here are solutions to common problems:

Skin Won't Import

  • Check format - Must be PNG format
  • Verify dimensions - Ensure it's 64x64 pixels
  • File size - Keep under 1MB
  • File access - Make sure Minecraft has permission to access files

Skin Appears Incorrectly

  • Wrong model - Switch between Classic and Slim
  • Layer issues - Some Java skins may display differently
  • Transparency - Bedrock handles transparency differently
  • Try another skin - Use a Bedrock-specific skin instead

Can't Find Import Option

  • Update game - Make sure you're on the latest version
  • Navigate correctly - Go to Dressing Room > Edit Character > Classic Skins
  • Look for icon - Import button sometimes appears as a small upload icon
  • Platform limits - Remember consoles don't support direct importing

Skin Not Syncing

  • Account check - Ensure you're using the same Microsoft account across devices
  • Internet connection - Verify you're online for syncing
  • Wait longer - Syncing can take a few minutes
  • Restart game - Sometimes a full restart is needed
