Installing Skins on Mobile Devices

A complete guide to installing custom Minecraft skins on Android and iOS devices

Mobile Minecraft Skin Installation

Playing Minecraft on your mobile device doesn't mean you have to settle for default skins! This guide will show you how to install custom skins on both Android and iOS devices running Minecraft Bedrock Edition.

Mobile skin installation is different from Java Edition but still straightforward. Follow the step-by-step instructions for your specific device to get your custom skin up and running in minutes.

Before You Begin

To follow this tutorial, you'll need:

  • A custom skin file (.PNG format) saved on your device
  • Minecraft Bedrock Edition installed on your mobile device
  • A Microsoft/Xbox account linked to your Minecraft game

Android Installation

Follow these steps to install custom skins on Android devices:

1

Download Your Skin

First, make sure your chosen skin file (.PNG) is downloaded to your Android device. You can use your browser to download from skin websites or transfer it from another device.

Pro Tip:

Most Android devices save downloads to a folder called "Download" in the internal storage. You can check this location using the Files app on your device.

2

Launch Minecraft

Open the Minecraft app on your Android device. Make sure you're signed in with your Microsoft/Xbox account.

7

Navigate to Skin File

Using the file browser, navigate to where you saved your skin file (usually in the Downloads folder) and select it.

Tip for Finding Files:

If you can't locate your skin file, try checking different storage locations like Internal Storage, Downloads, or Documents. You may need to tap on "Show all storage" or a similar option to see all folders.

8

Choose Skin Model

After selecting your skin file, Minecraft will ask you to choose between "Classic" (Steve) or "Slim" (Alex) model types. Select the appropriate one for your skin.

After selecting the model type, tap "Confirm" or "Done" to apply the skin to your character. You should see a preview of your skin on the character model.

Success!

Your custom skin should now be applied to your character! Return to the main menu and join a world to see your new look in action. Press the F5 button in-game (or the camera button on mobile) to view your character in third-person.

iOS Installation (iPhone & iPad)

Installing custom skins on iOS devices requires a few extra steps, but it's definitely possible:

1

Save Skin to Files App

To install a custom skin on iOS, you'll first need to save the skin file (.PNG) to your device's Files app. You can do this by:

  • Downloading the skin in Safari and saving it to Files
  • Receiving the skin via AirDrop, Messages, or Email and saving to Files
  • Transferring from a computer using iCloud Drive

Important:

Make note of where you save the file in the Files app. Creating a dedicated folder like "Minecraft Skins" can make them easier to find later.

2

Launch Minecraft

Open the Minecraft app on your iPhone or iPad. Ensure you're signed in with your Microsoft/Xbox account.

3

Go to Dressing Room

From the main menu, tap on the character model icon or your character portrait at the bottom of the screen to access the Dressing Room.

4

Edit Your Character

Tap on the "Edit Character" button to access the character customization screen.

5

Navigate to Classic Skins

Tap on the "Classic Skins" tab in the customization menu. This tab is usually the second option in the top navigation.

7

Locate Your Skin File

The Files app will open. Navigate to where you saved your skin file earlier. Select your skin file when you find it.

iOS File Browser Tip:

If your skin is in iCloud Drive, look for the "iCloud Drive" option in the sidebar. If it's in a local folder, check "On My iPhone/iPad" instead.

8

Select Skin Model

After selecting your skin file, you'll need to choose between "Classic" (Steve) or "Slim" (Alex) model types. Select the model that matches your skin design.

9

Confirm and Apply

Tap "Confirm" or "Done" to apply the skin to your character. You should see your character update with the new skin.

iOS-Specific Tips

  • If you're having trouble accessing the Files app from Minecraft, try saving the skin file to the "On My iPhone/iPad" location instead of iCloud Drive
  • Make sure your skin file has a .PNG extension
  • If the import option doesn't appear, try restarting Minecraft or updating to the latest version
  • iOS may occasionally limit file access - if this happens, try moving your skin to a different folder in Files
